The Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing now require those auditing in accordance with the Standards to have an external Quality Assurance Review (QAR) once every five years, effective 1/1/2002.

 

This seminar discusses the external review process, including providing information that is helpful in preparing for a QAR.

 

Additionally, the attendee will be able to evaluate her/his own internal audit group during the seminar, including determining the overall opinion that would perhaps be reached by an external review team.

 

During the seminar, actual results of external reviews will be shared with the attendees for purposes of highlighting some of the more difficult issues internal audit groups are facing today.

 

Discussions.  The seminar starts with each attendee doing a self-evaluation in two key areas: governance and risk assessment.  Next, a brief overview will be presented on the new standard that requires the internal audit group to establish a quality assurance and improvement program.  Following this, tools used by external reviewers will be shared so the attendee can apply them during an internal assessment.  The remainder of the seminar will focus on what takes place during an external QAR and how the attendee can prepare for such.
