CIA Exam - Help & Tips
EXAM TAKING TIPS
(All Parts)
PRIOR EXAMS
Take each of four parts of prior exams under exam conditions; do multiple choice questions only.
Score results; start studying part with highest score first.
Within each part, first start studying subject with lowest score. This is where you have the most potential of increasing score.
Do not start studying next part until satisfied you can achieve passing grade.
EXAM QUESTIONS
Determine reason why you missed a question.
Write down calculations required before calculating; easier to double check answers.
For each question answered, on exam paper, indicate Y, M, N (Yes, know answer; Maybe have right answer; No, do not have a clue). After completing all questions rework in order of Maybe, then No, then Yes.
Underline key words when reading question.
Read last sentence first, especially for longer questions, to determine question being asked.
Eliminate distracters.
Re-read negative questions ("...all except...", example).
Take the question to the answer and then the answer back to the question.
Questions are either singular or plural: singular,"...which one answer...", vs. plural,"...the most appropriate...". Plural questions are more difficult to answer.
General type answers have a higher probability of being correct, vs. specific answers.
IDENTIFY STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
Determine reasons for missing questions: lacked knowledge base; calculation error; misread question.
Determine subjects most difficult by closely reviewing questions missed.
